Dragon Age The Veilguard Fire and Ice Main Quest Walkthrough
Fire and Ice serves as a pivotal quest in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, significantly altering the dynamics for Rook and their team.
A Fighting Chance
This main quest follows directly after The Cauldron and primarily involves several dialogues at the Lighthouse. Start at the kitchen table discussing Lucanis and Davrin’s connection. Next, proceed to the library table to gather information about the blighted dragon’s location. You’ll acquire details about your next destination, marking the true beginning of your mission!
Best Companions for Fire and Ice
For this quest, it’s essential to have one robust companion wielding fire abilities and another with ice capabilities. Therefore, we suggest bringing along Neve along with either Davrin or Taash. Having these elemental powers at your disposal will simplify the upcoming boss confrontation.
After assembling your party, utilize fast travel to reach the designated spot on your world map and commence your journey to slay the dragon. Your official mission will kick off as soon as you arrive!
Go After the Dragon
Evka will inform you that the dragon has been located at a dilapidated tower, and Taash will devise a strategy to draw it out. Once you regain control of your group, advance directly through the castle gates. Navigate through the castle until you encounter Warden Rhodri, triggering the dragon’s appearance, which leads to the major boss battle.
Boss Battle: Seartooth Vyrantus
This encounter unfolds differently depending on whether you aided Treviso or chose Minrathous! For specific strategies against the alternate boss, refer to our On Deadly Wings walkthrough. The initial dragon you confront is a rematch with Seartooth Vyrantus, the same dragon from On Blighted Wings, so our previous strategies for that encounter are applicable here.
Aim for the dragon’s weak areas, particularly its front legs, when executing ranged strikes or utilizing your skill menu. When the dragon comes close, it will arch its head back to perform a bite attack that cannot be blocked—dodge backward to evade it. At a distance, it will dive in for a similar bite; again, a backward dodge is your best defense!
Seartooth Vyrantus will also unleash a fireball attack, which uniquely can be blocked unlike its other techniques! When it ascends high, clear the area; it will crash down into a zone highlighted by a large red circle. As its health dwindles, the dragon will intensify its rampage, and Ghilan’nain will emerge alongside the other blighted dragon.
Boss Battle: Seartooth Vyrantus and Corius the Icetalon
After defeating one blighted dragon, it will receive healing and summon the second dragon. Though this fight may appear daunting, reinforcements will arrive before long. Once your allies make their entry, you will acquire a new skill to launch enhanced ballista bolts.
Like other companion abilities, this ballista comes with a cooldown period of approximately 40 seconds, trackable in the bottom right corner of your screen near your companion’s portrait. Use this ability generously as it recharges, as it will stagger your targeted dragon, revealing a vulnerable spot for significant damage. Activate any available skills while the dragon is staggered for maximum impact. Prioritize targeting a single dragon instead of spreading your focus; dealing with one first will prevent feeling overwhelmed by both simultaneously. Once you defeat them, a brief conversation with your allies at the Lighthouse will follow, leading to your next main quest!
