This is a walkthrough to get to Dungeon 9 Death Mountain and how to get through it.

To reach Dungeon 9 in The Legend of Zelda for the NES, follow these steps:

Acquire the necessary items: Before heading to Dungeon 9, make sure you have obtained the following essential items: the wooden sword, the boomerang, the ladder, the raft, the power bracelet, the recorder, the bow, the silver arrows, and the magical rod. These items will help you navigate through the game and overcome various obstacles.

Acquire the whistle: To access Dungeon 9, also known as Death Mountain, you need the whistle. The whistle is obtained by rescuing the old man from the fifth dungeon, known as “The Lizard.” Once you defeat the dungeon’s boss, collect the Triforce piece and the old man will give you the whistle as a reward.

Find the entrance to Death Mountain: Death Mountain, the location of Dungeon 9, can be found on the overworld map. It is located in the northeast section of the map, towards the top-right corner. Look for a mountainous region with a cave entrance.

Use the whistle to reveal the hidden entrance: Stand near the cave entrance on Death Mountain and use the whistle. This will reveal the hidden entrance to Dungeon 9. The entrance will appear as a set of stairs leading underground.

Enter Dungeon 9: Once you’ve uncovered the entrance, simply walk over the revealed stairs and descend into Dungeon 9.

The Legend of Zelda for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) is the first installment in the long-running Legend of Zelda series. It was developed and published by Nintendo, and it was initially released in Japan in 1986, followed by a North American release in 1987.

In the game, players assume the role of a young hero named Link, who is on a quest to rescue Princess Zelda and defeat the evil Ganon. The game takes place in the fantasy land of Hyrule, and players must navigate through an open-world environment, exploring dungeons, solving puzzles, and battling enemies.

The gameplay of The Legend of Zelda on the NES is a mix of action, adventure, and exploration. Players have the freedom to explore the overworld, which is divided into various screens, each containing different landscapes, enemies, and secrets. Along the way, Link can acquire new weapons, tools, and items that help him progress in the game.

The game features a top-down perspective, with players controlling Link using the NES controller. Link can swing his sword to attack enemies, use items like bombs and a bow and arrow, and interact with the environment to uncover hidden paths and treasures. Throughout the game, players will encounter NPCs (non-playable characters) who provide hints and information to aid Link in his quest.

The Legend of Zelda on the NES is known for its non-linear gameplay, which allows players to tackle dungeons and explore the world in their preferred order. The game features nine main dungeons, each guarded by powerful bosses and containing a piece of the Triforce, a legendary artifact that plays a central role in the series.

The game’s graphics and sound were groundbreaking for their time, and its open-world design and innovative gameplay set a new standard for the action-adventure genre. The Legend of Zelda on the NES received critical acclaim and remains a beloved classic, with its success leading to the creation of a long-running and successful franchise.

Since its release, The Legend of Zelda has been ported to various other platforms and has received sequels and spin-offs on different Nintendo consoles. It has become one of the most iconic and influential video game series of all time, captivating players with its immersive worlds, engaging gameplay, and memorable characters.

How to get to the first Dungeon

To get to Level 1, also known as the Eagle, in The Legend of Zelda for the NES, follow these steps:

Start from the beginning of the game. After the opening sequence, you’ll be placed in the overworld.

From your starting point, head east. Navigate through the various screens by moving to the right until you reach a bridge.

Cross the bridge to the east and continue moving right until you reach a group of trees.

Bomb the wall to the right of the trees to reveal a hidden cave entrance. Enter the cave.

Inside the cave, you’ll find an old man who will give you a sword. Take the sword as it is an essential weapon for your adventure.

Exit the cave and continue moving eastward until you reach another bridge.

Cross the bridge and head south. You’ll see a series of forested areas and pathways.

Keep moving south until you find a staircase leading underground. Enter the staircase.

You’ll find yourself in a labyrinth-like area known as the Lost Hills. Navigate through this maze by taking the correct path, which is determined by the musical tones you hear as you move.

Listen for a repeating melody as you traverse the Lost Hills. Follow the correct path until you reach the end of the maze.

After successfully navigating the Lost Hills, you’ll find yourself near a mountainous area. Move to the right, and you’ll see an entrance to Level 1, also known as the Eagle.

Enter the dungeon and begin your exploration of Level 1.

That’s how you get to Level 1, the Eagle, in The Legend of Zelda for the NES. Remember to be prepared with your sword and other items before entering the dungeon. Good luck on your quest!

You’ll enter a basement area with a large room in the center. Defeat the enemies, and a door will open, revealing the boss room.

Enter the boss room and prepare to face Aquamentus. Use your bow and arrows to attack its head when it opens its mouth. Repeat the process until Aquamentus is defeated.

Once the boss is defeated, a heart container will appear. Collect it to increase your maximum health.
